
Known as the land of "Fairy Chimneys" for its surrealistic landscape, much of Turkeys Cappadocia region was formed by volcanic ash spewed from Mount Erciyes. After the dawn of civilization, humans carved cities into the rock. Towns like Özkanak, Derinkuyu, and Kaymakli have up to eight subterranean stories.
